Fees for 2022 and permanent dog licenses were set at a recent meeting of Fayette County commissioners via a resolution. The Fayette County Auditor was also cleared to begin registrations.
As previously stated and according to Fayette County Dog Sitter Nelson Prater, dog registration and associated fees are in accordance with the appropriate legislation: Ohio House Bill 59 and payment to OSU College of Veterinary Medicine. Pet registration is not only a state legal requirement, but it can help bring pets home when something goes wrong and / or they end up in a shelter.
Tags purchased in stores or off machines are identification tags. ID tags do not count for state law, so even with this type of tag ownership of a dog cannot be proven and a citation and misdemeanor can be issued.
Payments and registration of badges can be done year round both at the dog shelter and at the auditor’s office.
The dog shelter is located at 1550 Robinson Road in Washington Court House. It only accepts cash payments and will only issue one-year registrations.
The Fayette County Auditor’s office is located in the County Administrative Building, Suite 303, 133 S. Main St. at Washington Court House. Cash and checks can be accepted at this location and they can issue multi-year and permanent licenses.
The fees for the dog license have remained unchanged from this year’s fees and are set as follows:
— $ 14 for a 2022 label
— $ 42 for a three-year tag
— $ 140 for a permanent license
These costs are per dog and per dog; the license cannot be transferred to another dog. The license must be renewed when they expire, unless the permanent license is purchased.
Kennel fees have been set at $ 70.
The open registration period is from December 1 to January 31. If licenses are purchased during this time, there are no fees or penalties. If the license is purchased outside of this period, a late fee of $ 14 will be charged. Late fees are waived if the dog has been newly adopted or born.
When registering a dog, the information needed includes an estimate of the dog’s age, the dog’s breed (mixed breed is an option), address of owners, names of owners, and name of the dog. dog.
